EAL frequently asked questions

Please review the FAQ's below & feel free to reach out to us with any other questions you have!!

  • How is Double T Ranch different?  Why will this program work better than others we have tried?

    • OUR TEACHERS ARE 800 - 1500 LBS.  There is no pushing around our teachers.  Our participants will have to step up.  If a horse doesn't have a leader, they will become the leader

    • THE HORSES ARE A PREY ANIMAL.  This means that their senses are highly astute.  They can hear our heartbeat and they will react to the slightest changes within a team - allowing facilitators to find those "teachable moments".

    • THEY ARE JUST LIKE US - SORT OF.  Horses have a lot to teach people, but there are also many similarities.  Herds to horses are like teams to people.  Horses require a leader that they trust and respect, just like we require in the workplace, classroom, and in our own lives.  These common traits give us, the facilitators, the ability to parallel everything that happens in the arena back to real life so that what you learn really sticks!  Quite simply, the horse does the teaching, facilitators are there to offer an explanation and provide guidance as participants work through the solution and find success.  Working with horses creates an experience participants can refer to and take with them long after they leave the arena.

  • What group sizes do you work with?

    • As small as 6 and to a maximum of 16.  If you have a group size that doesn't fall within this range, contact us and we can discuss your options!

  • What if I'm scared or don't like horses?

    • Humans don't much when they are in their comfort zone.  This is an opportunity to overcome your fears or preconceived notions.  Some people who have attended our programs and workshops have started out petrified, but by the end... they have learned more about themselves and overcome their fears.

  • Do I need certain clothing?

    • The only required clothing is closed toed shoes for safety while working with horses.  Other than that, dress for the weather and wear clothes that you are not afraid to get a little dirty in!

  • Are you certified and insured?

    • Yes! We are certified through the Equine Connection - The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning, a leading organization in Equine Assisted Learning.  As well, we are a member of the Saskatchewan Horse Federation and own appropriate insurance policies for all activities we host on the property.

  • I'm allergic!

    • Knowing is half the battle!  Just be sure to take an antihistamine before you come.

  • Our organization / school doesn't have the budget for this program!

    • Contact Us at Double T Ranch and we will always be able to help work within your budget!  Our mission is to never turn down an organization or human in need.  We will be able to work with what you have available to create a program that is just what you need!

  • How do we get there?

    • Transportation is the responsibility of the participants / leading organization.  We have a map and directions on our Contact Us page.

  • Do we need any special equipment?

    • No, Double T Ranch provides you with everything you need!  All you need is closed toed shoes, weather appropriate clothing and an open mind!

  • Do you have permission forms?

    • We provide appropriate forms for insurance liability support as well as photo releases & allergy identification as applicable.  Permission slips would be the responsibility of the organization responsible for the participant.

  • Do we need to send chaperones with youth participants?

    • We do ask that there is 1-2 teachers or staff members to accompany the group during the program.

  • Are we riding?

    • No-sir-rie-bob!  We only work with the horses on the ground in their natural state.  All of our work is out of the saddle.  You will work alongside the horses as part of your team rather than as a tool.  This was the horse can be its true self and not be "on the job".  This allows for the best and true reaction of the horse and the most beneficial way of learning for you!

  • Do I need experience with horses?

    • Nope. As our program does not require you to ride a horse, no prior experience is necessary.  We will inform every group of the rules and safety precautions to take around the animals and the arena.

  • What if it's rainy, snowing or cold out??

    • We have an indoor arena that we host our programs in to keep us away from the elements.  We are out there too so we understand the need for a comfortable environment.   Note that this arena is not insulated or heated so it can get quite warm in there through summer and is still cold in the winter, but you will not be exposed to direct sun, wind, rain or snow.  Please be sure to dress for the weather.  NOTE:  We will contact you if extreme weather hits - we cannot run our programs in hotter than +30C nor colder than -25C for the health and safety of the horses and humans.
